Courses will be offered throughout the year, with options for creators of all ages and all skill levels to join us — beginner, intermediate, and advanced, children and adults.

Events will include author readings and signings, free writing and community workshops, short-run books clubs, and more.

(Most of our courses and events will take place online (over Zoom), but smaller events and classes will take place in the store. Want to TEACH a class at Ophelia's? Email us at OpheliasClasses@gmail.com with your course pitch.)

We're just getting started on this new program and are grateful for the support of our Seattle community! The dream and goal behind this new program is to create an accessible and affordable space for folks to learn, grow creatively, gain confidence in their work, and form community.

Upcoming Classes (More courses and dates to come!):

Instructor: DC-Based Author / Illustrator Jessica Levey

This two hour class offers practical tools to help you release your writing anxiety and bust through stubborn writer’s block to get you back to writing... fast! With fun writing exercises and prompts, a closer look at the REAL causes behind writer's block, opportunities to interact with your fellow writers, and tried-and-true tools to get pen to paper -- and keep it there -- to help you walk away with new confidence in your work.

Instructor: Sonoma-Based Writer / Podcaster John Staley

In this supportive and nurturing two-hour workshop, you'll learn to express your story through journaling and daily writing practices  to process challenges, boost self-esteem, and gain deeper self-awareness in recovery. Explore effective genres such as memoir and poetry, and build a meaningful writing routine in sobriety.

Instructor: Pennsylvania-Based YA Author Josh Berk

Students will learn about a variety of literary forms and genres, including poetry, memoir, short stories, and more... in only 3 days!

Instructor: LA-Based Author / Numerologist Rebecca Scolnick

In this two-hour workshop, we'll cover everything from types of fanworks to fandom ethics to throwing our creative hats into the fandom ring, and even get writing with some easy, breezy prompts! This class is for writers of all genres and skill levels, as well as those who are scared to call themselves writers. Fandom, just like creativity itself, is for everyone.

Instructor: Seattle-Based Artist / Historian Gina Siciliano

Students of all levels are invited to this basic drawing class. Siciliano's award-winning graphic novel I Know What I Am: The Life and Times of Artemisia Gentileschi would not have been possible without her solid foundation of drawing experience. Students are invited to bring different mediums and experiment with different styles, as they learn the rudiments of drawing from life and from photos. Siciliano will provide demonstrations, and gentle, encouraging feedback.

Instructor: Savannah-Based Author Helen P. Bradley

In this two hour workshop, you'll learn the essentials of 'grassroots' offline marketing from award-winning author (and old-school book promoter) Helen P. Bradley. Helen will share her real-world experience with finding a publisher, choosing a budget-friendly publicist, organizing a book launch and readings, generating a mailing list, and marketing her debut novel, Breach of Trust, to thousands of happy readers.

We will also be hosting local cartoonist David Laskey for a ‘Postcard Comics’ Zoom workshop on Sundays in September; and local author Jen Haupt for a ‘Backstory Bootcamp’ on September 19th. Enrollment for these classes will open soon!
