About the Course

Healing Your Creativity with Fanfiction

Creating fanworks can have major impacts on your creativity through its vast range of topics, themes and mediums, its use of characters and worlds you already know and love, and also the community that can be built -- there's nothing like getting complimentary comments from strangers around the world!

Through writing fanfiction, I have built back confidence in my writing abilities, taken small and big risks that are low stakes, but powerful, and pushed myself to get inventive in ways that have been incredibly freeing. In this two-hour workshop, we'll cover everything from types of fanworks to fandom ethics to throwing our creative hats into the fandom ring, and even get writing with some easy, breezy prompts!

This class is for writers of all genres and skill levels, as well as those who are scared to call themselves writers. Fandom, just like creativity itself, is for everyone. Come play in someone else's sandbox!

"I am a writer, witch, weirdo, and queer human (she/her) who uses magic and storytelling to support unlearning work and inspire new meaning making.

My first book baby, The Witch’s Book of Numbers: Enhance Your Magic With Numerology, is now available wherever books are sold. And my Substack, swimming in the soup, boasts a little bit of this, a little bit of that—all magical and mundane explorations of Witchcraft, Philosophy, Spirituality, Religion, Pop Culture, and more.

I’ve also had the pleasure of a multi-hyphenate career in the film, tv, and digital video space, where I’ve created content for W Magazine at Condé Nast, Nickelodeon, Nike, TodayTix, a handful of non-profits, and dozens of independent artists.

After a decade in New York, I now live in Los Angeles with my wife and our pup. I’m deeply obsessed with them both. Currently, I’m working on another book about numbers, as well as a contemporary queer romance novel! I am represented by Kelly Van Sant at KT Literary."
